Ismail Ibrahim
Ismail
Ibrahim is one of the founders of Nik Saghir & Ismail and is now
its Managing Partner. He started his career in the State of Kelantan
Civil Service in a District Office as an Assistant Collector of Land
Revenue/Assistant District Officer in 1961. He was seconded to the
Judicial Service and served as a Circuit Magistrate from 1965 to 1967.
After obtaining Bar-at-Law degree at Lincoln’s Inn, London in 1970, he
joined Legal and Judicial Service to serve as Magistrate and
subsequently as the President of the Sessions Court. His last post in
the service was a Senior Assistant Registrar in the High Court of
Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1974. He was formerly a partner of Messrs Ong Chee Kay & Ismail from 1974 to 1977. Ismail Ibrahim specialises in banking and corporate finance as well as property laws. He has advised major banks and finance companies in Malaysia in various loan syndications and project financing, and was intimately involved in advising major property developers of several major projects for more than 20 years from 1978. During that period, he was also involved in number of privatisation exercises carried out by the Malaysian Government including amongst them, the privatisation of the Kelang Port, the Malacca Port and the Telecommunication Department of Malaysia (JTM). In recognition of his expertise, he was appointed by Bank Negara Malaysia (Central Bank of Malaysia) to be a member of the Panel Khas Tabung Pemulihan Usahawan (Special Panel for Entrepreneur Rehabilitation Fund) and the Corporate Debt Restructuring Committee (CDRC). In 1991, he was appointed by the Central Bank as its nominee director on the Board of the Kuala Lumpur Finance Berhad and Sabah Bank Berhad.
